LASIK Method
Classic laser technology is used to have the best vision in a few days. It’s time to set aside helpful tools like eyeglasses/daily lenses!
Eye lasers with the LASIK method
If your eyesight is lost, you go to an optician for glasses and/or contact lenses, sooner or later it can be applied to everyone. However, it may not be very suitable for private hobbies and social life (eg diving, make-up etc.). In addition, some people experience advanced vision problems, especially with advancing age, and therefore they prefer laser eye surgery. Our Aesthetic Antalya team wants to give you back your eyesight so that you can regain a high quality of life and feel comfortable. Call us for detailed information!
LASIK technology: laser eye treatment in Turkey
In addition to the classical PRK method, different laser eye techniques are also applied. On the one hand, LASIK-OP, which is a mixture of LASIK method and PRK method, on the other hand, ReLEx Smile, Femto-LASIK and Epi-LASIK methods are applied.
Laser in situ keratomileusis, or LASIK for short, is an eye laser procedure that can be used to correct ametropia and restore vision using a laser. In general, as Aesthetic Antalya, we recommend treating your eyes using the LASIK method in Turkey if you have serious vision problems. More than 90% of all laser eye corrections are done using the LASIK procedure.
This is due to the fact that shortsightedness up to -10 diopters, farsightedness up to +4 diopters, as well as corneal curvatures can be corrected up to about 5 diopters. However, the success rate of the surgery varies from person to person, because the degree of success is related to the parameters of corneal thickness and working diameter. Therefore, it is sometimes advisable to use a different laser method. Our specialist surgeons in Turkey will decide which one is best for you.
LASIK Method procedure
Depending on the number of diopters, the treatment time ranges from just a few minutes to about 20 minutes per eye. However, you should plan for the preliminary examination 1-2 days in advance because all the important details for your eye surgery in Turkey will be documented.
A microeratome (thin cutting tool) is then used to create a fin. This “corneal flap” is set aside for the next step, thus allowing the use of laser. The laser itself works using the most modern technologies so that the individual corneal layers needed for correction are precisely targeted there. At the final stage, the cover is still kept closed, as it protects it from external factors.
What should I do after eye laser surgery with LASIK technique?
One day after LASIK eye laser treatment, a follow-up examination is performed in our clinic. Theoretically, the patient can return to work, but we recommend resting for a few more days to allow your eyes to heal properly. You should also avoid activities such as make-up, sauna or sports in the first two weeks after eye surgery. During your pre-examination, you can get more information in advance by e-mail or telephone.
Who is the LASIK method useful for?
With the LASIK eye laser method, fixed ametropia (far vision up to +5 diopters (dpt), near-sightedness up to -12 diopters, corneal curve up to 4 diopters) can be corrected.
How is LASIK treatment done?
LASIK eye laser surgery is always an outpatient procedure. Anesthetic drops are taken before the LASIK procedure so that you do not feel any pain. An eye clip (speculum) is used to secure your eyelids during the procedure to keep the eye open.
Once the anesthesia has taken effect, a flap (small flap) is opened with a laser on your corneal surface. The flap is then opened to expose the corneal layer of the eye.
The laser then creates and shapes the tissue in the micrometer range. Thus, the cornea receives a complete curvature and ametropia can be compensated. The wing is moved back to its previous position, similar to the body’s own patch. The negative pressure of the eyes makes the wing automatically sucked and fixed. This is how LASIK surgery is completed. You can be discharged from the clinic / hospital after a detailed debriefing.
The procedure of LASIK treatment begins with local anesthesia (with special eye drops) of the eye, which is cleaned in parallel. A general anesthetic is not required because the procedure is usually painless and does not take long. Both the lid speculum and the suction ring are used to hold and stabilize the eye during the procedure.
What kind of reaction do the eyes show after LASIK surgery?
LASIK eye surgery can increase tear secretion and eye redness. These reactions are normal and disappear quickly. After a while, adverse reactions may occur: dry eyes and seeing an imaginary foreign body sensation. Some patients also complain of glare such as halos in luminaires. Regardless, you will never experience severe pain. Follow-up checks are done the next day, seven days later, thirty days later, and three months later.
Will I still use glasses after the procedure?
Patients generally continue their daily lives without using contact lenses or glasses after LASIK surgery. There may be the use of lenses or glasses during night or strenuous work and while driving. Even presbyopia, which begins at age 45, must often be compensated by reading with glasses.
How much time is required for the procedure?
Usually, after LASIK surgery, two days pass by resting. However, you should avoid a dusty environment for the first seven days. When you regain full visual performance, you can return to normal life. This becomes clear during the initial follow-up examinations.
When can I start exercising?
You can start light sports two or three days after LASIK surgery. If there is a lot of wind and/or dust, we recommend wearing safety glasses.
Does health insurance cover LASIK surgery?
Some private health insurance companies cover all costs. For this, you should consult with the company about the insurance conditions beforehand. Official health insurance does not usually cover these types of laser eye treatments.
When should this procedure be done?
Even though the LASIK method is one of the safest ways to correct refractive errors with a laser, 10% to 20% under- or over-corrections can be made. In addition, rare concentrations of entangled epithelial cells may be seen in the treated area or between the corneal margin and the flap. The problem can be resolved with a correction made about three to six months after the eye surgery.
