Surgical procedure for biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) in Turkey

Biliopancreatic Lead (BPD) has two phases. In the first stage of the operation, up to 80 percent of the stomach is removed. This means that only a small remnant of the stomach remains at the end of the esophagus. A certain part of the small intestine is removed.

In the second stage, the last part of the intestine is connected to the duodenum next to the stomach. Food intake is greatly reduced. Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) is generally used in a single surgical procedure in Turkey.

What is done before Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD)?

Before the operation, everything is discussed in detail and all questions are answered, so that the patient does not have any questions in his mind. Certain tests are also required before the operation. General anesthesia (general anesthesia) is used during the operation.

The course of the operation

Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) is performed laparoscopically through a small abdominal incision. This procedure prevents open cuts and speeds up the healing process. This process only takes a few hours. After the operation, patients are brought to the observation room and followed by experienced personnel.

After the operation

After biliopancreatic diversion (BPD), a special nutrition program is created. The diet begins with fluids. This is the habituation phase. Depending on the speed of recovery, the diet is continued with mashed foods and then soft boiled foods that are easy to digest are followed in the following days. Then it goes to the normal menu. Additional vitamin and mineral supplements are recommended to help the body heal faster and to prevent a possible micro-residue deficiency.
